Ep. 020 - Cosplay Contests: Audio and Sound Editing

Audio can be very tricky. How do I stop the echoing sound? What kind of hardware do I need? What about software? This week's guest is none other than our very own sound editor, David Jeffress!

Audio Episode!!! Go!

David guides us in sound editing and answering your questions about audio for cosplay contests. Thank you David for doing this amazing episode!

David, VFire, and Pannon chatting about audio editing secrets!

The most basic things you need for sound editing are a microphone and an editor. Your phone, lapel mic, nicer microphones, etc. Surprisingly your cell phone has a decent mic for recording! There are editing apps on your phone as well but we suggest Audacity as a nice free program for beginners. You can download audacity here if you want to give it a swing.

Also a big thank you to our group on the book of faces. The questions in this episode were provided by members from the Facebook group, which anyone can join here: The Cosplay Stitch and Seam Group. Questions can also be emailed to the blog via the contact form or directly through CosplayStitchAndSeam @ gmail.com.

Obligatory silly photo!
Thanks for listening!

The first step to building any prop is figuring out what you’re going to make it out of. A lot of prop makers use light woods like poplar and MDF and while I have used some wood I decided it would be my first sword that I built e…

This section of the blog is brand new and is meant for seeing the creation process of one or more parts of a coplay. Savannah was kind enough to explain her entire Sora cosplay for us.

Inspiration
Savannah did not know she was going to cosplay Sora as she played through the popular game "Kingom Hearts II." There is nothing like a sudden moment of inspiration from something you see.
"I was working at JoAnn... and noticed a chain in the clearance rack. This chain sparked the idea [for the cosplay] because it was so perfect for Sora's crown necklace!" - Sailor Crafty.

Creation Process
"The overall idea behind this costume was comfort and and the ability to wash everything so I can wear it again and again! I made it back in 2005 and I still wear it to cons now! ... I especiall…
