May first feature delayed - sorries!!

I apologize for the delay. Silver-Fyre needs more time to cover her interview questions. She is a very busy person and I am totally cool with that and want to make sure she has the time she needs to answer. I should have contacted her sooner, but school was school and I may have jumped the gun a little bit. If I do not have a post ready about her this week, I will have her up first thing next month. :D I assure you, the wait will be worth it. I asked some questions of Silver that I am personally interested in and may be of use for the cosplay community as well.

In other news: I have the sewing machine guide from Shining Sakura! I will be posting that later this week as I review the document sent to me and find some reference pictures to add to it ;)

Thank you for your patience. ~VFire

The first step to building any prop is figuring out what you’re going to make it out of. A lot of prop makers use light woods like poplar and MDF and while I have used some wood I decided it would be my first sword that I built e…

Finally, the visuals to accompany this episode on embroidery terms and techniques! This episode covers some general terms that can get you started on embroidery. The blog posts for this episode will have more than part. This is Part One: Basic Tools.

This method of adding details to your costume can be very time consuming, but therapeutic at the same time. During this time of social distancing and many hours spent at home... maybe this is the time to try something new and dig into the world of embroidery!
Basic Tools Here are some basic tools to start with. Part Two of the blog posts will cover some of the basic stitches later this week.

Embroidery Needles: These come in all shapes and sizes. Ask your local craft store for which ones work best. I use sharp needles for thick fabric and dull needles for fabric that has decent texture/holes already in the weave. You can also buy a kit with a variety you can experiment with.

Floss: Not the kind you use on your teeth of course. Embroidery f…
