Ep. 28 - Anti Bullying and Cosplay

Let's take a moment and talk serious biz with bullying in the cosplay community. Our community should be a place of acceptance and understanding. Let's make it the best it can be!

Cosplay is about having a safe place to be a nerd. Be kind to your fellow nerds and help others in need. We are here to have fun, and that should always be our number one goal.

Don't forget, the podcast will be on short hiatus. One more episode will air on Friday the 21st of December. We will return with more cosplay shenanigans on January 11th!
Thanks for listening. We love all of you,

- The Stitch and Seam Team

Ep. 27 - Keep it Soft, Keep it Safe!

Where do you keep your cosplays when not wearing them at conventions? How do you decide when to retire them? Shout out to Darren for the topic request and to the Facebook group for adding their input!

How do you store your cosplays? Share on the Facebook Group and maybe you will give someone a good idea for their own space!

We have a Ko-fi page! And there's a special goal on it for funny silly times on the podcast. All proceeds go to supporting the blogsite and podcast.

Say hello at CosplayStitchAndSeam@gmail.com and share some cosplay horror stories, yo!

Ep. 26 - Armor vs. Fabric!

This week's episode is all about how amazing Fabric.. no Armor... no Fabric!! Wait? which is better? Are armor cosplays superior to fabric based ones? Or is it the other way around? The answer is in the episode. If you have ever found your self wondering this or even thinking that your cosplay method is the best, you might want to have a listen. It may surprise you to see how much work goes into each method and skill for these types of cosplays.

Make sure to stay tuned this week as VFire has some fun diagrams to share that help show how much armor and fabric type cosplay skills overlap. We hope you enjoy the episode and the fun things coming ahead.

As requested, we have a Ko-fi Page now! If you like this episode or others, let us know in the comments, share an episode with a friend, or donate on ko-fi. We love all our listeners and appreciate the love and support we have received so far. Watch for news on goals and more!

Ep 25 - Anime Banzai: In the Green Room

What is the Green Room? This is where cosplay contestants hang out before going on stage and performing! This fun episode goes behind the scenes and interviews cosplayers both before and after they go on stage. This is the last of our Anime Banzai episodes but most certainly one of our favorites.

Going on stage can give someone butterflies and be incredibly scary. The Green Room is a great place to be among others as nervous as you are. The camaraderie at Anime Banzai is very strong and everyone was so supportive of each other. Many competitors make news friends on the green room as well as see old faces they may only see at conventions. The creativity of the people who compete in these contests is admirable. Enjoy the rest of the pictures from the contest below.

Thanks for reading! The Stitch and Seam Team

Ep. 24 - Live at Anime Banzai!

Anime Banzai is the biggest Anime Convention in Utah and one of the longest running conventions in the state. The Stitch and Seam team was ready for it and celebrating Halloween in our own special way. Check out the LIVE episode from the event as we talk about our experiences, both past and present, at Anime Banzai!

Overall the convention was fantastic and so much fun. We always enjoy coming to this convention and it seriously has some of the best attendees out there. As always, thanks for listening! - The Stitch and Seam Team

Ep. 23 - Halloween Special: Cosplay Horror Stories!!

Prepare yourself! Hide your props! Keep your sewing kit close, for today is Halloween and we have a bunch of Cosplay Horror Stories to share!!

Big thanks to everyone who shared their stories at Anime Banzai 2018! We look forward to more stories as the podcast grows. For those who do not know, we share your stories at the end of each episode and give a shoutout to the cosplayer. If you send pics, we make a post on the blog and include them. These stories are by far my favorite thing ever!!

Share your story with us at CosplayStitchAndSeam@gmail.com or join us at the website CosplayStitchAndSeam.com

As always, thanks for listening,

Ep. 22 - Pamper Day!

Sometimes the best way to prep for a convention is to have a self-care day! Take a moment to relax and enjoy the pr-con pamper with Pannon as she relaxes with other cosplayers before Anime Banzai 2018. From manicures to pedicures, it is nice to sit back and take a break since conventions can be stressful to prep for.

Special thanks to Le Nails at South Town Mall for hosting all these amazing cosplayers.

The event was hosted by Pannon and pics were shared on our cosplay group on Facebook. Come join in the fun! Share your cosplay pamper days with us! Pre-Con Pampers for the win!

Thanks for listening and for everyone who able to make the event!

Ep. 21 - Cosplay in a Hurry!

Anime Banzai was last weekend and it was a blast! this episode has been up since Friday, now the accompanying blog-post can join in! I hope those who attended Anime Banzai had tons of fun. The Stitch and Seam Team had a lot of fun collecting Horror Stories for the Halloween Episode coming up.

Although we advise avoiding making cosplays in a time crunch here is an episode with advice on how handle a fast paced, deadline demanding, cosplay speed build. Sometimes it is unavoidable so here is how to speed build with keeping your health, and hopefully mind, sane.

What cosplays have you made on short notice? Share them here or in the Facebook Group! VFire has her weekend build of Pandora Hearts, Xerxes Break, in his Pandora Organization uniform below. It was fun build and she was surprised at how much she learned about jacket making. Next time she will do better and not have such short sleeves ;)

Thanks for listening, The Stitch and Seam Team

Ep. 020 - Cosplay Contests: Audio and Sound Editing

Audio can be very tricky. How do I stop the echoing sound? What kind of hardware do I need? What about software? This week's guest is none other than our very own sound editor, David Jeffress!

David guides us in sound editing and answering your questions about audio for cosplay contests. Thank you David for doing this amazing episode!

The most basic things you need for sound editing are a microphone and an editor. Your phone, lapel mic, nicer microphones, etc. Surprisingly your cell phone has a decent mic for recording! There are editing apps on your phone as well but we suggest Audacity as a nice free program for beginners. You can download audacity here if you want to give it a swing.

Also a big thank you to our group on the book of faces. The questions in this episode were provided by members from the Facebook group, which anyone can join here: The Cosplay Stitch and Seam Group. Questions can also be emailed to the blog via the contact form or directly through CosplayStitchAndS…

Ep. 019 - Cosplay BBQ's

Cosplay Barbecues and Picnics are a rare and fun treat for the summer. Listen to this fun group of cosplayers who love the sun and having parties at the park. There is also bonus charity work!

Cosplay barbecues or picnics are great to find and make new friends in your area. It is out of the convention scene and gives more time for people to relax and talk.
It's also nice to meet up with friends you already have and catch up.
You don;t have to be in cosplay wither. You can just meet with like minded nerds and maybe play a card game or two.
This was a ton of fun and a big thanks to Rennagade Cosplay for making a ver Nerdy BBQ of Awesome!
Thanks for listening! - The Stitch and Seam Team

Ep. 18 Body Positivity and You

Today's guests talk about loving your body with body positivity. Meet Turtlebunnies Cosplay and Unroyalty Cosplay (@un_royalty on instagram) as they talk about road blocks they have run into and how they are overcoming them.

Everyone should love their body, no matter what type of body you have. It can be difficult with society saying that beauty is one thing or another, but listen to these two cosplayers and what they have to say. Their advice and stories are inspiring!

As always, thanks for being here listerners!
- the Stitch and Seam Team

Ep. 017 - Secrets of Cosplay Docs for Contests!

This week Pannon and VFire talk about documentation for Cosplay Contests. This can be a document that help make or break a good presentation of your work to craftsmanship judges.

Check out these Documentation examples here free to check out from le Googles.

Contests may have different requirements so make sure to check what the judges are looking for. Here are 5 thing to remember when making your documentation.

1. Reference pictures. If you have one thing have this in your docs. Bring a reference of the character. Front, back, and side views are always a nice bonus!

Sometimes it is nice to put a reference right next to something in progress. For example VFire used the above images to show how she worked on Sheik's braid and aimed to replicate the weird criss cross at the top.
2. Progress picture.
Show your process. Did something not work out? Show that and why you chose another path. Show the evolution of your work.

3. Summarize.
Group similar methods together (e.g. when your arm…

Cosplay Contests - Stage References

Planning out your stage performance can be problematic if you have no idea what to do. Here are some tips and visuals from our episode on how to tackle your performance!

The advice on the podcast and here on this blog are for your reference. These are not the rule, but guidelines to help beginners and masters alike help come up with ideas and plans for one's stage performance. Feel free to adapt and make your stage performance all your own! We love seeing how much everyone can improve on each other's ideas.

Tip #1: Make sure you know how much time you have on stage and if needed, ask how big the stage will be. This is important to help you practice and know just how much room and time you need to tell your story.

Tip #2: Whether it is a walk on or a skit, try to tell a story and/or show off your cosplay. Make sure to cover the whole stage as keep it looking interesting. One bit of advice I was told was to do something different every 15 seconds.
